Film composer Mannan Shaah has stepped out as an independent artist with ‘Mohabbat Ki Zabaan Hai Khamoshi’, a romantic ballad penned by the veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and sung by Anuradha Juju.
Rooted in semi-classical ragas and recorded with a fifty-piece live orchestra, the release leans on the lush, acoustic grandeur of live ensemble playing at a time when much popular music is assembled in the box.
The project is another instance of film-world musicians reaching back toward classical and orchestral roots for their personal, non-film work — a small but telling counter-current in contemporary Indian music.
